Fairfield County Thanksgiving Tradition!

Happy Thanksgiving!

To most, Thanksgiving is a day to relax, spend time with loved ones, eat and watch some football. Not so for the Staples and Greenwich football teams. The Westport Wreckers and the Greenwich Cardinals go head to head every Thanksgiving day in one of Fairfield County's most heated rivalries. It is a much loved tradition with the game alternating from Westport to Greenwich every Thanksgiving. Everyone gets into the spirit of the game and has a great time. A perfect way to spend the day!
This year The Wreckers were looking to go all the way. They were undefeated, 10 and 0 and had lost to the Cardinals the past two Thanksgiving's. It was an exciting game right down to the wire. With a second left, Westport was up, but then, with the Cardinals within field goal range, a penalty! Two seconds were added to the clock giving the Cardinals a chance to win by one if they made the field goal. Everyone was on their feet, making noise, a time out was taken by the Wreckers to try and put pressure on the Cardinals punter. The kick was blocked and with no time left on the clock, the Wreckers won! They are now 11 and 0 and are going to the play offs!

It was a gorgeous day to be outside and enjoy all of nature's bounty. Next time you're in Fairfield County CT on Thanksgiving, do something a little bit different and go see the game!
